On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Avicenna Center for E-Learning at the University of Baghdad hosted a pivotal workshop titled “Introducing the Concept of Sustainable Development and its Goals.” The session, led by Assistant Instructor Ibtihal Monem Hamid, aimed to demystify sustainable development and highlight the United Nations’ strategic plan to enhance global economic, social, and environmental conditions without exhausting natural resources.
During the workshop, Hamid provided an in-depth overview of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offering comprehensive explanations for each one. She emphasized that these goals are rooted in three fundamental dimensions: economic, social, and environmental, and stressed the importance of balancing diverse needs while considering environmental, societal, and economic constraints.
Concluding the workshop, Hamid urged attendees to actively promote awareness of sustainable development and participate in the transformative efforts it advocates. She envisioned a future characterized by the eradication of poverty, the prevalence of social justice and equality, a pollution-free environment, decent work opportunities for all, sustainable healthcare, and high-quality education.
