The Avicenna Center for E-Learning organized a workshop titled “Risks of the Dark Web” on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The workshop was presented by Assistant Translator Zainab Younis Ibrahim.

The workshop aimed to define the dark web and its risks, categorizing these risks into three levels. The first level, considered the least dangerous, involves accessing academic research, training courses, and pirated movies and TV shows for knowledge and entertainment. The second level includes learning hacking and invading people’s privacy, while the third level involves promoting criminal activities.

The presenter outlined several steps to follow if one must access the dark web for research or other purposes. These steps include using a device free of personal information or important data, utilizing VPN software, disconnecting the camera, avoiding downloading files to prevent viruses, and refraining from purchasing from dark web stores.

Finally, the presenter advised against accessing the dark web altogether, as it exposes individuals to the risk of having their data and personal information accessed by others, potentially making them victims of dark web criminals.
