The Avicenna Center for E-Learning at the University of Baghdad held a workshop titled “Digital Transformation in Education” on Thursday, October 24, 2024, led by Agricultural Engineer Ayat Mahmoud Ibrahim.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the importance of integrating modern technology into the educational process to keep pace with the rapid developments in e-learning. The presenter offered a comprehensive overview of digital transformation, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities it presents. She emphasized that digital transformation goes beyond merely using technology in teaching; it also encompasses assessment, independent learning, and the smart management of educational resources. The benefits of digital transformation in education were also discussed, including improved access to educational content anytime and anywhere, and enhanced educational quality through interactive digital media.
The workshop covered several key points, including:
- The process of digital learning: Addressing time and space constraints, and providing a more engaging and effective learning environment.
- Encouraging the use of technology: As a means for student interaction, idea exchange, and exposure to different cultures through digital media.
- The downsides of using technology in education: Such as reduced direct interaction between students and teachers, and the potential health risks from prolonged screen time.
The session concluded with practical solutions to mitigate these drawbacks, focusing on developing students’ digital literacy and preparing them for a future job market that heavily relies on modern technology.
