The Ibn Sina Center for E-Learning Organizes a Workshop on “The Transformation of the Image from Classical to Digital” The Ibn Sina Center for E-Learning organized a workshop entitled

“Photography: From Classical Images to Digital Images,”

presented by Assistant Designer Lara Ghassan Shaya, under the supervision of Dr. Ali Abdul Hassan, Head of the Editing Division, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the history of the camera, even before the emergence of photographic cameras.

It covered the evolution from the camera obscura through many generations of photographic techniques — such as daguerreotypes, calotypes, dry plates, and film — to the modern era of digital cameras and smartphone photography.

The session shed light on the aesthetic and technical transformations in the art of photography across the ages.

It reviewed the developmental stages of photography from the classical form that relied on traditional techniques to the digital image that is based on modern technologies.

The workshop also discussed the impact of digital transformation on how artists perceive framing, color, light, and composition.

It explained how modern tools — despite their ease of use — pose new challenges for photographers in maintaining meaning and aesthetic depth in visual work.

The workshop concluded with a set of valuable concepts and information on the early emergence and development of the camera over the years.

Understanding this historical sequence not only enriches theoretical knowledge but also deepens the photographer’s appreciation for the tools they use today, making them more aware of the long journey the image has taken to reach the small digital screen they now carry in their pocket.
