Avicenna Center for E-Learning organized a workshop entitled
“Education Is Our Weapon to Combat Drugs”
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Translator Balqees Haqi Ismail on Tuesday, 17/2/2026.
It was held in person at the Electronic Computing Center Hall as part of the cooperation mechanism between the two centers for the year 2025.
The workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness about the dangers of drugs and their devastating effects on physical and mental health, as well as their negative impact on the family and society as a whole.
It also sought to promote a culture of early prevention and instill religious and moral values that protect young people from drifting into harmful behaviors.
Furthermore, the workshop aimed to develop sound decision-making skills and strengthen participants’ self-confidence, enabling them to reject behaviors that may harm their health and academic and professional future.
The workshop included comprehensive awareness themes covering the definition of drugs and their various types, highlighting their serious health consequences that may lead to addiction and physical and mental damage.
It also addressed their impact on academic performance and social relationships.
In addition, the workshop discussed the factors that may drive some young people to drug use, such as weak religious commitment, negative peer influence, idleness, and life pressures.
Awareness statistics and real-life examples were presented to illustrate the seriousness of this issue, along with discussions on prevention methods and the role of families and educational institutions in guidance and follow-up.
An open discussion session was held to allow participants to ask questions and exchange views, enhancing their understanding of the problem.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing that continuous education and the dissemination of accurate knowledge represent the first line of defense against the drug menace, and that prevention is a shared responsibility among families, educational institutions, and society as a whole.
The workshop also recommended the continuation of such awareness activities and encouraged students to become positive role models and ambassadors of awareness in their communities, contributing to building a conscious and safe society free from drugs.
