The Avicenna Center for E-Learning organized a workshop titled “Drug Risks: Awareness and Prevention for an Addiction-Free Society” on Monday, December 3, 2024. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Intisar Hussein and Ms. Atoor Abbas.
The workshop aimed to raise public awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and its adverse health, social, and economic impacts, while also highlighting strategies for prevention and combating this phenomenon to build a healthy and thriving society.
The presenters explained the concept of drugs and the factors contributing to addiction, such as ignorance and negative peer influence, emphasizing the role of family and proper upbringing in prevention. They also discussed types of drugs and their harmful effects on individuals and communities, supported by global statistics showing a rise in the problem, particularly among youth.
At the end of the workshop, the presenters called for strengthening societal awareness initiatives and fostering collaboration between educational, health, and social institutions to address addiction. They also underscored the importance of family dialogue and positive supervision to protect young people from falling into this peril.
